Presenting the rankings of 400 Asian MFIs along several performance metrics and an analysis
Download 52 pages

This ranking of Asian MFIs – the 2007 MIX Asia 100 – is compiled by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Microfinance Information eXchange, Inc. (MIX). The ranking draws on outreach and financial performance results from 2006 of 392 MFIs across 23 countries.

The ranking presents results for individual Asian MFIs along several performance metrics and analyzes the patterns that emerge. Institutions surveyed are ranked under nine categories: outreach–borrowers, outreach–depositors, scale, market penetration, growth, profitability, efficiency, productivity, and portfolio quality.

The report finds that although the largest and often the most innovative MFIs are located in Asia, growth in the sector has not been uniform. While some Asian MFIs have led the globe in growth in outreach, others have stagnated. MFIs in Asia also face the challenges of providing client-oriented services, moving away from a single product culture, decreasing operating costs and increasing transparency.
