FINCA Mexico Awarded Smart Certification for Keeping Clients First

Financiera FINCA, S.A. de C.V. SOFOM E.N. R (FINCA Mexico), a leading microfinance organization, announced receiving Client Protection Certification by the Smart Campaign yesterday, recognizing its strong ethical standards on client care and protection. FINCA Mexico is the fourth FINCA subsidiary to join an exclusive group of certified financial institutions worldwide, including FINCA Bank Georgia, FINCA Kyrgyzstan and FINCA Azerbaijan.

For 27 years, FINCA Mexico has provided financial services, such as village banking loans, small group loans and individual loans, to small business owners to increase their income, create jobs and improve lives. The institution caters to the unbanked in Mexico, including over 85 percent of its clients that are low-income women.

The Smart Campaign is a global initiative that certifies the adoption of high ethical standards in the treatment of clients in the microfinance industry. Certification is awarded to financial institutions who institutionalize the Smart Campaign’s seven Client Protection Principles, which include: appropriate product design and delivery, prevention of over-indebtedness, transparency, responsible pricing, fair and respectful treatment of clients, privacy of client data, and mechanisms for complaint resolution.
