Deputy Director, Women’s Livelihoods Development
Gates Foundation is seeking a Deputy Director, Women’s Livelihoods Development, who can lead our field implementation work in markets ranging from Nigeria to Bangladesh, playing a leadership role designing and executing the Gender Equality Division’s strategy on women’s empowerment in the field.
The Deputy Director (DD) will help shape the strategic direction, planning and execution of the unit, and deliver on responsibilities by assembling a high caliber team and guiding them through the development of WEE portfolio investments aimed at improving women’s resilience and income generation opportunities. The DD will work internally as part of the leadership team and will contribute to wider portfolio management objectives, division design, launch, and execution, and enablement of an effective division. Externally, the DD will collaborate with grantees, contractors, and key partners to achieve the foundation's desired impact, and represent the foundation in external meetings, conferences and workshops.
The ideal candidate will be a strong people leader with an entrepreneurial approach and track-record of delivering livelihood and economic empowerment programming on the ground. They will be experienced in implementing cross-disciplinary work in the areas of financial inclusion, market linkages and microfinance or savings group formation, as well as recent experience using digital technology to improve delivery of services and outcomes for the poor. Given that many poor women operate in the agricultural economy, familiarity with the agricultural livelihoods space is highly desirable.
