Private Equity Investment Director Africa

In this position, you will analyze and lead the company’s origination and execution of private equity transactions in Africa, with a focus on East and Sub-Saharan Africa, and financial institutions and insurance companies. You will take a leading role in strengthening our private equity practice worldwide. Based in Zurich, Switzerland, you will work closely with BlueOrchard’s investment teams around the globe.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Source primary fund investments opportunities in Africa, specifically East and Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Manage the origination of private equity transactions in Africa, specifically East and Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Execute transactions, including structuring and negotiation with external counterparties.
  • Monitor the existing Africa investment portfolio.
  • Coordinate post-deal monitoring, reporting and value creation.
  • Lead relationship management and active engagement of the portfolio companies.
  • Coordinate and liaise with internal clients and support functions.
  • Conduct industry research and systematic market coverage in the African region.
  • Involve in team-wide efforts and projects cross-regionally.
  • Support business development globally and lead local distribution efforts.


  • At least 8 years’ experience and proven track record in private equity fund investing, with African institutions, in direct transactions and related areas in Africa.
  • High visibility in the African private equity field and excellent industry networks with entrepreneurs, intermediaries, and other Private Equity fund managers in this region, specifically East and Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Personal track record in sourcing and managing private equity portfolios in Africa, specifically East and Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Board experience in African institutions.
  • Relevant experience in the assessment of financial or insurance institutions.
  • Extensive financial experience, strong analytical skills, and detailed understanding of African business concepts.
  • Proven skills in client interaction and communication with African clients and investors.
  • Proactive, high energy, convincing, self-confident and entrepreneurial mind-set.
  • Confident dealing with ambiguity and acting successfully under pressure.
  • University degree in business administration, finance, economics or an MBA.
  • Fluent in English and in one African language, French is a plus.
