About the Job: 

The Senior Advisor will have the function of supporting and monitoring the development, implementation and monitoring of Business Development Services for all PPI projects and activities in close consultation with project partners. Reporting to the Country Manager, S/he will provide regular technical assistance and coaching to project partners at the national and regional level in either implementing current projects or developing new ones that have BDS component.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Training, mentorship for trainers & coaches:
    • Providing Business Development Services training to partner organizations.
    • Defining the criteria for selection and the process for selection of the trainees to maximize the completion and success rates of the participants in the program interventions in close consultation with partner NGOs.
    • Preparing the ToT (logistics, dates, participants) in collaboration with partner NGOs.
    • Conducting the ToT for the different BDS & coaching schemes adapting the approach as needed during the ToT intervention.
    • Developing set standards that need to be met to be accredited.
    • Assessing the trainers that have been trained during the ToT and providing them with feedback on areas of strength and possible areas for improvement according to the standards for accreditation.
    • Gathering feedback and providing a summary report (using a training evaluation form) and follow-up mentoring discussion records to fine-tune the accreditation standards and rules considering attendance, performance and experience.
    • Mentoring and monitoring trainers during the provision of the BDS to targeted trainees as per different projects plans, including possible business skills training & coaching and other support schemes.
    • Providing mentorship and feedback to the partner organizations’ trainers on the BDS services they deliver to the end beneficiaries.
    • Supporting partner organizations in arranging the graduation event in terms of agreeing on the program, list of participants, speakers and Awards linked to any incentive program.
  • Supporting the establishment of Entrepreneurship Development Support Units (EDSU):
    • Supporting partner organizations in developing the plans for establishing central and government-based Business Development Centers.
    • Reviewing partner policies and procedures, and providing recommendations for changes.
    • Mentoring Business Development Units established by partner NGOs.
    • Integrating the incentive schemes and advanced mobile mentorship tools; and training the involved staff on using and implementing them properly.
    • Putting in place process and procedures to steer and facilitate Business Development Units established by partner NGOs.
  • Development of demand driven BDS solutions:
    • Conduct field-based needs assessment/s to observe potential beneficiaries to inform the design of the tools (e.g. focus group discussion guidelines, survey tools, etc.). This includes using human centered design methodology with selected beneficiaries to confirm that the planned project is appropriate for the needs of the target beneficiaries, to identify the specific training and coaching needs, the preferences and level of intervention needed and the various features of BDS models including price.
    • Interviewing and surveying selected staff to become trainers and coaches to establish their business acumen, training and coaching capability and aptitudes towards innovation.
    • Developing learning outcomes and curriculum outlines.
    • Developing BDS training materials and curriculum (learner guide, facilitator guide, training aids).
    • Developing coaching guides, procedures and tools.
    • Designing and developing a mobile learning application with service provider/s including relevant incentives to drive behavior change in collaboration with PPI Experts.
    • Designing, developing and testing appropriate franchising models as a mechanism for providing ongoing support to business owners. This includes developing selection criteria for business model selection, shortlisting and selecting business models for a franchise pilot, developing franchise model standard operating procedures, financial models and other documentation and selecting franchisees with the support of partner organizations for participation in the pilot.
    • Developing and organizing quality assurance measures and suggesting necessary changes, improvements and initiatives.
    • Contribute in designing new projects, which have BDS component, in a way that serves the sustainability purpose of the current project.
    • Develop BDS’ communication material that help generating more visibility for the current project and raise fund for new ones.


  • Master’s degree in Business/Economics, Development, Management or Business Administration.
  • Five or more years of experience designing experiential BDS tools, and non-financial services.
  • Highly developed conceptual thinking and design experience.
  • Open to ambiguity, experimentation and iterative learning through action-based research and experience on the ground.
  • Well versed in participant-centered, experiential facilitation methodologies.
  • Experience working in multicultural teams.
  • Experience facilitating TOT workshops and direct training.
  • Ability to travel outside Cairo (almost 50 percent of the time).
  • Strong report writing skills in both English and Arabic.
  • Excellent knowledge and command on Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Ability to work independently and to remain flexible, adaptable and reliable.
  • Experience of working with local NGOs in Upper Egypt.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
  • Advanced skills in proposal writing, fund raising and donor relation (desired).
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with fluency in English and Arabic required, French is a plus.
