About the Job:
The Savings Groups team seeks a proactive and detail oriented individual to become an integral member of the conference planning team for SG2020: The Power of Savings Groups, to take place in Durban, South Africa in early March 2020.
The Conference Assistant will support a wide array of event planning needs and logistics – from registration, volunteer management, and hotel accommodations to web development and conference communications – for an international conference hosting approximately 400 guests. S/he will have significant opportunity for networking with development practitioners from across the globe, as well as encouragement for professional development and skills building.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong multicultural communication skills and a go-getter attitude in identifying and managing all conference-related issues. S/he is a dedicated team player and willing to work longer hours, when necessary, to ensure a job well done.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Supporting all aspects of conference planning and logistics relating to SG2020: The Power of Savings Groups (March 2020).
Travel to Durban, South Africa for conference planning and event management.
Managing registration activities, including tracking, registrant inquiries & follow ups, and other related tasks.
Liaising with the hotel regarding the room block and guest accommodations.
Coordinating and tracking logistics relating to scholarship recipients and speakers.
Supporting volunteer management at SG2020.
Assisting with web design and maintenance of the SG2020 website.
Supporting in the development of communications materials.
Responding to general conference inquiries and assisting with day-to-day administrative duties as needed.
B.A or B.S in international development or related field.
An interest in financial inclusion and/or Savings Groups preferred.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Willingness and ability to quickly learn new skills and processes.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and short deadlines.
High degree of familiarity with Microsoft Suite, particularly Excel.
Demonstrated experience in event planning and logistical coordination.
Some experience with online registration systems and web development platforms is desirable.
Excellent communication skills (both written and oral), and a high level of professional diplomacy.
Proven ability to thrive within diverse constituencies, preferably in a global context.
Fluency in English, proficiency in second language desirable (especially French and Spanish).
U.S. Citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or other authorization to work in the U.S.
This is a temporary, paid, full-time position at $12/hour plus overtime pay. The position starts in mid-September and runs through early-April 2020. Office hours are generally nine to five, with longer hours expected leading up to and during SG2020.
