Bangladesh: COVID-19 and the Coming Microinsurance Revolution

COVID-19 has brought to the forefront the potential for microinsurance in the Bangladesh market, where over 30 percent live below the national poverty line and insurance penetration is extremely low.
Speaking at a webinar yesterday titled ‘What’s the role of microinsurance in response to COVID-19 in Bangladesh?’ member of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority of Bangladesh (IDRA) Dr M Mosharraf Hossain said that microinsurance has close links with microfinance and can be an effective tool to improve the economic conditions of the low income communities.
