Financial Inclusion Innovations for Healthcare in a Changing Climate

A landscape of existing solutions, gaps in innovation and priority interventions in the climate change, healthcare and financial inclusion nexus

Climate change is emerging as a major global health challenge and poses a critical threat to the pre-existing vulnerabilities and resilience of low-income populations. The interplay between climate change, healthcare, and financial inclusion is critical to fostering resilience and advancing sustainable development. Access to financial services such as savings, credit, insurance, and digital payments enables households to build financial buffers, invest in adaptive measures, and recover more quickly from adverse climate-related health events.

This paper explores the intertwined challenges and opportunities for financial service providers (FSPs) and impact investors to support innovations in climate-smart health financing solutions that have the potential for scale, impact and sustainability in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
