Supporting the Financial Inclusion of Intra-Continental Refugees and Migrants
These eight briefing notes supporting the financial inclusion of refugee and migrant populations are the result of cross-cutting learnings from the FISONG 2021. FISONG was set up by Agence Française de Développement (AFD) to co-finance civil society projects in order to learn from their experiences through a cross-cutting learning mechanism. The projects aim to enrich the processes used by international organizations to support public policies, and to take greater account of non-governmental cooperation initiatives so that they can be scaled up.
In 2021, FISONG aimed to support innovations to remove barriers to financial inclusion and, more broadly, to improve the socio-economic integration of refugee and migrant populations who face specific constraints in accessing financial services, partly due to their migratory journeys and conditions of arrival in their host countries.
The briefing notes summarize key issues and contributions arising from the two projects supported by FISONG 2021:
- Cerrando brechas, implemented by the Handicap International Federation (Humanity and Inclusion) in partnership with the Foundation Capital in Colombia.
- ReFine by Mercy Corps in Uganda.
