Leveraging Digital Innovation to Promote Agricultural Insurance Among Small-Scale Farmers
77 pages
Despite growing interest, insurtech remains underdeveloped in most low- and middle-income countries, particularly in agriculture. Few solutions for improving the efficiency, delivery, and affordability of agri-insurance for smallholder farmers have scaled, and those that have are largely concentrated in more digitally advanced markets like East Africa. High barriers to entry, including capital requirements and regulatory constraints, mean most insurtech start-ups require significant support to grow.
Under these premises, this study explores how digital innovation can enhance the design and delivery of agri-insurance in developing countries, helping strengthen smallholder resilience to natural disasters.
