This topic seems to be a very challenging one because from the stand point of the an Internal Controller(Compliance Officer) that I am the risks are important and nonetheless merit to be adressed head-on.
The experience that we have in our Sub-saharan Africa(Specifically in Cameroon) context is:
- We organised our farmers in cooperatives.
- We created a system to permit the sharing of risk among the members of a group.
- We created a value chain that permits us manage the risk upfront and downstream.
- We segmented our loan portfolio in order to reduce the effect of any climatic shock on our profit and loss.
I believe our experience is worth sharing and can add value and bring to perspective a lot of the risks underlined in this article.
