Diagnosis of the Epidemic's Impact on the Financial Health of the Working Class and the MSEs in China & Policy Recommendations

Key findings from an analysis of the impact of the COVID-19 on Chinese residents

The outbreak of COVID-19 has affected the lives of hundreds of thousands of Chinese and might have a wider and long-lasting impact on the economy than SARS. The financial health of the already vulnerable wage-earners and the micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in China became a concern. Whether they have the capability and the confidence to recover from the nationwide lockdown since last January is the key to national economic recovery.

The Chinese Academy of Financial Inclusion (CAFI) conducted this research on the epidemic’s impact on the financial health of the working class and MSEs in China by collecting 2000 responses from different walks of life and communities.
